How to Simplify Your Home
Feeling overwhelmed in your space? It may be time for you to simplify your home.
Your home is supposed to bring you peace and help you feel cozy. If your home is making you feel overwhelmed, these tips on simplifying your home are for you!
This post is all about how to simplify your home.
How to Simplify Your Home
No. 1 Declutter Your Closet
Contrary to what you may think, having too many clothing options can make getting dressed more difficult instead of easier.
Sometimes having fewer options is better for decision making. Capsule wardrobes are popular because they simplify the process of getting ready.
You don’t need to own less than 20 articles of clothing to reap the benefits of a capsule wardrobe, however. Getting rid of excess clothes that no longer fit, or no longer align with your style can change your closet and alleviate stress.
Only having clothes that you truly love, and that fit you well, can also make getting dressed more joyful.
No. 2 Plan Your Meals Before Grocery Shopping
If you get caught in the cycle of grocery shopping, then coming home and feeling like you have nothing to eat, this tip will be extremely helpful for you.
Planning my meals and snacks for the week, and then grocery shopping accordingly has simplified my cooking (and saved me money)!
Your fridge will not be overfilled, and you won’t have to throw spoiled food out as frequently. Plus, you will no longer struggle to think of meal ideas.
You don’t necessarily need to buy less food, but being more intentional with the food you do buy can help to simplify your kitchen.
No. 3 Stop Buying Home Decor
If you find a piece of decor that you love, by all means purchase it. This tip is related more to pieces of decor you are not obsessed with.
Buying furniture and decor just to fill your home can result in a room that feels overwhelming. Simplify your home decor shopping process by narrowing down your interior style, and buying accordingly.
This goes back to the idea of being satisfied with your belongings, when you love everything you have. If you aren’t happy with all the decor pieces in your home then you might fall into the trap of buying even more things to try to satisfy your need for comfort.
No. 4 Develop a Cleaning Schedule
When we first moved into our home I was overwhelmed with constantly cleaning and organizing. I felt like no matter how much I cleaned in a day, my cleaning to do list was never ending.
If you have the same struggle, then implementing a cleaning routine may be what you need.
I no longer stress about when I’m doing laundry, or let my space get too dirty, because I have designated days of the week for different cleaning tasks.
Instating a cleaning schedule can alleviate the mental load of when and how often to clean each area of your home.

No. 5 Ease Into Simplifying Your Life
Trying to simplify your entire life in a day is only going to make things worse. Give yourself grace and the time you need to implement these tips and more into your life to truly discover what is best for you.
You might discover that your entire home wasn’t actually stressing you out, you just needed a good closet declutter. Or you might find out that your maximalist design style no longer suits you. This will make the simplifying process take longer.
It takes time to build a home and a routine that you love.
